New Gambling Domain Extensions part three
Tuesday, July 8th, 2008The overall cost of acquiring a domain of stature would likely only be financially viable to those who own the casinos who would use all their capital they have accumulated over the years whether legitimately or by cheating players to grab up all the major gambling keyword extensions so they would have no need to worry ever again about how they treated players because the websites which once held position in the search engines, therefore had powerful influence with the casinos they advertised and made sure if those casinos wanted to continue to be advertised on these sites then the players had better be treated fairly … would no longer be of any level of importance to the casinos. They could literally do as they pleased and risk only minimal repercussion because they’d have a near-endless supply of fresh players coming in.
Very few surfers will be savvy enough to know to look beyond the first page of search engine results to find a gambling guide or casino portal of such stature as afore mentioned, and even if they did those gambling guides and casino portals would no longer have enough clout to influence the casinos past what they had originally intended. While these types of guides and portals would certainly still have value as they would at least be the best place to find casinos of integrity, they likely would lose their ability to step in on behalf of a player and the difference in the outcome of that situation be that the casino gave in rather than risk losing that gambling guide’s endorsement. Expect similar situations in other niches if the new domain extensions are given added weight by the search engines which boosts their value in regards to rankings. In either case this move by the registrars will cause many sleepless nights for existing webmasters who worked so hard to gain the status their websites currently hold, and will quite likely birth numerous lawsuits by those who currently hold such domains as cars.com or casino.com since this move could greatly devalue the worth of those domains and if that happens then the worth of almost all domains will be less once these new extensions become accepted to the virtual world.
Before everyone goes running off screaming the sky is falling however, I would like to remind what was said in the beginning of this article which is that the new domain extensions could have no more effect on the way of life on the internet than did the release of the dot country extensions or even the dot org and dot net extensions. It is worth everyone’s time to have an understanding of what is at stake in this matter because this will effect everyone who uses the internet. It is just a matter of to what degree?
